Pysanka Days - how i drank the long weekend away
So on Canada Day most of you were probably watching fireworks and enjoying BBQ's and some tasty Canadian Beer.
Little did you know that not far away.. in a little town named Vegreville hundreds of Ukrainians were drinking the night away - as if vodka was going to be outlawed on Monday or something.
Anyways.. from what i remember...
Friday - we got to Vegreville and paid for overpriced Festival tickets and set up our tents - then we met up with Ukrainians.. so many Ukrainians.
A fight almost broke out between 2 guys over music -
"HEY! its a Ukrainian festival! YOU CAN'T PLAY ANYTHING BUT POLKA MUSIC!"
This was the time for everyone to bring out their finest and cheesiest Ukrainian goods and show thier Ukie Pride...
now.. no Ukrainian festival is complete without a Zabava.. (thats a dance - for all you non uk's)
and of course.. the Kolomayka - an impromtu ukrainian dancing opportunity for those who are talented or really really drunk - to show off their Ukrainian Dancing moves.
for eats you could get various sized plates of Pyrohi and garlic sausage...
It was good times - except I got drunk and lost my best friends and ended up in an old Ukrainian school buddy's car - having some laughs until my Friend finds me and says " I can't find my shoes or my sister..."
Night 2 I managed to get the drunkest i've ever been - which involved me passing out on a chair and being taken back to the tent on a golf cart (in my own defence.. i wasn't the only one)
Damn you $4 bottle of cheap white wine.. NEVER AGAIN!
Until next year...
